Hadern use the same sword as you do, the Hallowed Sword. Hadern can be a challenging foe, and he will likely beat you on your first try, but if you play safe and time your hardening right, you can beat him and earn a Glimpse of Reverie which provides you 15 Glimpses.
Drops Glimpse of Reverie when defeated during the tutorial or new game+. If The Virtuous Cycle DLC is installed, he can additionally be found in Fallgrim Tower as an additional optional boss fight and a merchant. Temple Grounds, Eternal Narthex and Abandoned Chamber Hadern can be found at the Tutorial Area. This fight is a two-phase fight, with Hadern first using the katanas before fully healing and switching to the axe form. Hadern also becomes available as a merchant. If The Virtuous Cycle DLC is installed, after unlocking all four of the base game weapons, Hadern can be fought in Fallgrim Tower to unlock the Axatana weapon and Hadern as a shell. Abandoned Chamber: Unlocks Martyr's Blade. Eternal Narthex: Unlocks Hammer and Chisel. Temple Grounds: Unlocks Smoldering Mace. Once defeated, you'll acquire the Weapon. Once you wake up you'll fight Hadern while he uses the weapon you want to unlock. Interact with the book next to the statue and you'll faint. 
There's one statue at the entrance of each major area.
In order to unlock each Weapon, you'll need to find the statues holding them. If your health drops to 0, the tutorial will end and you won't get the Glimpse of Reverie as a reward. You will only have one chance to defeat him during the Tutorial. He will fight you using the Hallowed Sword with the Mechanical Spike and can use the Hardening ability. Hadern is the Tutorial Boss and also the Guardian of all Weapons of Mortal Shell. You can visit Hadern for the Shell variation. After a successful PC beta that saw 350,000 downloads “in one week,” the grim action-RPG is set for an August 18 release. The heavily Souls-inspired Mortal Shell will be here sooner than I thought.
